by Christina Marmonti

Last Month, WalletHub post this Happiest Cities in America.  Well guess what?  New Hampshire's Cities made the cut!

What makes a person truly happy? Is it a high-paying job, a safe neighborhood, or just plenty of green space to explore on a weekend? According to a brand-new 2026 study by WalletHub, residents of New Hampshire have figured out the secret sauce.

In their latest report, "Happiest Cities in America," two of our very own—Nashua and Manchester—secured impressive spots on the national stage.

Nashua: Leading the Way at #27

Nashua continues to prove why it’s a perennial favorite for families and professionals alike. Ranking 27th overall out of over 180 cities, Nashua’s strength lies in its balance.

While many cities struggle with urban stress, Nashua ranked exceptionally high (#11 in the nation) for Community & Environment. This metric looks at everything from leisure time and weather to the "robustness" of the local community. When people talk about the "quality of life" in New Hampshire, this is exactly what they mean.

Manchester: A Top 50 Contender

Not far behind, the Queen City took the #51 spot. Manchester’s rankings were bolstered by a strong showing in Community & Environment (#33) and a solid Income & Employment rank. For those looking for the "big city" feel of NH with the happiness of a close-knit community, Manchester is delivering the goods.

The "Granite State" Advantage

It’s not just our cities that are shining. When you look at the state-level data, New Hampshire was ranked as the #8 Happiest State in America overall.

What is driving that happiness?

  • Safety First: NH consistently ranks in the top 3 for safety nationwide.

  • Economic Opportunity: We have one of the lowest poverty rates in the country (#1 in some categories!) and a thriving job market.

  • The Great Outdoors: Whether it’s the lakes, the mountains, or the seacoast, our "Community & Environment" score is hard to beat.

What This Means for Homeowners

If you are looking to sell your home, these rankings are a powerful tool. You aren't just selling a house; you’re selling a lifestyle that is statistically proven to make people happier. For buyers, it’s a reassurance that investing in New Hampshire real estate is an investment in your own well-being.
