New Hampshire Restaurants with a View: 6 Spots Worth the Drive

One of the things I tell every buyer who is relocating to New Hampshire is that this state has a way of surprising you. You think you are moving here for the low taxes, the good schools, or the lack of a sales tax, and then you spend one Saturday afternoon driving through the Lakes Region or the White Mountains and you realize it is so much more than that. The quality of life here is genuinely hard to put into words. So let me try to paint a picture a different way, through some of the most spectacular restaurants in the Granite State.

I recently came across a fantastic piece published by the Granite Post spotlighting six New Hampshire restaurants that pair incredible food with equally incredible scenery, and I could not help but share it with my own spin. Because if you are thinking about buying a home in New Hampshire, this is exactly the kind of afternoon you have to look forward to. You can read the original article here: 6 New Hampshire Restaurants with a View

The Granite Post article kicks things off up in Campton at the Little Red Schoolhouse, and honestly this one stopped me in my tracks. This family run counter service spot is literally built among the treetops, with an open air observation deck that makes you feel like you are perched above the canopy. The menu is classic New England comfort food: lobster rolls, clam chowder, fried clams, fish and chips, and cheeseburgers. They are set to reopen for the season soon, so if you are house hunting in the area and want to take a break between showings, this one is absolutely worth the detour.

Next on the list is Lakehouse Grille in Meredith, which sits inside the Church Landing at Mill Falls and looks directly out over Meredith Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee. If you have been exploring NH lakefront real estate or thinking about what life near the water actually feels like, this is the place to sit down and soak it in. According to the article, gorgeous windows wrap the entire dining room meaning there is truly not a bad seat in the house. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the week, plus a la carte brunch on Sundays. New Hampshire lakefront properties in the Meredith area have been in high demand, and a meal here makes it easy to understand why.

The article also highlights Polly's Pancake Parlor in Sugar Hill, and if you have never been, add it to your list right now. It has been serving guests for over 85 years, and the mountain views of the White Mountains make it worth every mile of the drive. Open Thursday through Monday from 7am to 2pm, it is the kind of spot that feels authentically New Hampshire in the best possible way. Buyers relocating from out of state often tell me they had no idea the state had this kind of character and charm. Polly's is exactly what they mean.

River House in Portsmouth is another favorite featured in the piece, and I have to say I completely agree with this pick. Located right on the Piscataqua River on Bow Street with both indoor and outdoor seating, it is the kind of spot where lunch turns into a long, relaxed afternoon. The Portsmouth and Seacoast NH real estate market continues to be one of the most active in the state, and restaurants like River House are a big part of why people fall in love with that area and never want to leave.

Walter's Basin in Holderness made the list as well, and for good reason. Situated near Little Squam Lake, the views from the dining room are stunning. The menu has something for everyone, from poutine and sticky ribs to creative sandwiches and decadent desserts, and the article notes there are even boat docks nearby for anyone arriving by water. If you are considering NH waterfront real estate in the Lakes Region, this is a wonderful spot to visit and start imagining what your weekends could look like.

The final restaurant featured is the Carriage House Restaurant at Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough, and this one feels like something out of a movie. A mountaintop estate with a fantastic lunch menu and views that stretch on forever. The Granite Post piece points out that Yankee Magazine named it their Editor's Pick for Mountain View Dining, and that kind of recognition says everything. It is the kind of experience that reminds you why New Hampshire real estate is so sought after right now. People are not just buying a house here. They are buying into an entire lifestyle.

That is what I love most about this work. Southern New Hampshire communities like Hollis, Amherst, Brookline, and Milford offer that perfect combination of great schools, low property taxes, easy highway access, and a sense of community that is genuinely rare. But the whole state has something special going on, and afternoons like the ones these restaurants promise are a big part of what makes New Hampshire real estate such a worthwhile investment.

If you are curious about what it looks like to buy a home in southern New Hampshire or anywhere in the Granite State, I would love to talk. And if you have a favorite restaurant with a view that did not make the Granite Post list, drop it in the comments. I am always looking for my next great meal.
